Cataract surgery is a quick and effective procedure, typically lasting between 10 to 20 minutes. The exact duration can vary depending on factors such as the complexity of the cataract, your cooperation during the surgery, and individual patient conditions. However, the main priority is to ensure that the surgery is performed safely, with careful attention to protect and preserve your delicate ocular tissues.
What Aftercare is Required Following Cataract Surgery?
After the surgery, your surgeon will provide you with specific aftercare instructions. At Moolani Eye Care Centre, we recommend the following steps for a smooth recovery:
- Avoid bending down, lifting heavy objects, or getting water in your eye for the first two to three days after surgery.
- After this initial period, you can resume your normal activities and wash your eye with your eyes closed.
- We prescribe eye drops for up to six weeks to support healing and prevent infection.
On the day of the surgery, you can move around your home, watch television in moderation, and eat and drink as you normally would.
By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure a safe and speedy recovery after your cataract surgery.
